Of course at the time all cars had cigarette lighters, and I think many still do today, as they do come in handy for other purposes. So, if you find one of these radios with the lighter (which is oftentimes missing), you will have a radio that will certainly become only more unique and a definite conversation piece as time goes by. ![]() There were also many radio shows named after cigarette Companies such as Chesterfield and the Lucky Strike Show. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope were oftentimes heard advertising various cigarette brands as was Jack Webb on his popular "Dragnet" radio show. As to the cigarette lighter on the top of the radio, well it certainly performed a needed function at the time when cigarettes were regularly advertised on the radio and later television.įrom Jack Benny to William "Bill" Conrad in "Gunsmoke", every cigarette brand from Chesterfield, Lucky Strike, L & M, Philip Morris (with his famous "CALL FOR PHILLIP MORRIS") were regular sponsors for many of the radio and television shows until they were banned. The radio itself is a standard All American 5 and a good performer. There may have been other radios with cigarette lighters installed in them, but this is the only one I have ever seen or heard talked about. The RCA Victor Model 9-XL-1E Radio with a cigarette lighter is unique, and certainly so more today and as time goes by. ![]()
